Bill Whitelaw

CEO

 
Bill Whitelaw, chief executive officer of JuneWarren-Nickle’s Energy Group (JWN), joined the company in 2002. He has expanded the company’s product portfolio, developed new frontiers within the industry and ensured JWN remains progressive and people-focused. Bill began his involvement with the publishing industry in the 1960s, selling the St. John’s Evening Telegram while living in Goose Bay, Labrador. Having worked as a reporter, editor-in-chief and publisher, he brings over 30 years of experience in the newspaper and business-to-business media sectors to the company. Bill is also a director on many community boards, including the Canadian Heavy Oil Association, Canadian Petroleum Hall of Fame, Canadian Business Press, Vertigo Theatre, Alberta Global Forum and Telus World of Science (External Relations Committee). Bill has a print journalism diploma from Loyalist College, a BA from Queen’s University and a master’s degree in communication studies from the University of Calgary.

Rob Pentney

President

 Rob Pentney, president of JuneWarren-Nickle’s Energy Group (JWN), leads the management team in finding new ways to achieve customer satisfaction. Since joining JWN in 2007, he has been instrumental in enhancing the company’s sales and marketing efforts, including developing new products and services for the oil and gas and construction markets. Rob brings oil and gas and information systems knowledge from his experiences at Home Oil, Canterra Energy, Oracle and geoLOGIC Systems. He has also taught sales and marketing courses as a part-time instructor at Mount Royal University’s Bissett School of Business. Rob has a bachelor of mathematics and business administration from the University of Waterloo. He is the lucky husband of the world’s greatest production accountant and the proud father of two outstanding young adults. He enjoys hockey, tennis and competing in events such as Olympic-distance triathlons.
   

 Maurya Sokolan

Director of Sales & Marketing

 Maurya F. Sokolon, director of sales and marketing at JuneWarren-Nickle’s Energy Group (JWN), has been in the publishing and information services industry for over 20 years. She’s worked on over 30 different titles in multiple industries from Hawaii to Calgary. Maurya earned her master’s degree in business while she worked full-time as an analyst. She went on to conduct market research, manage high-performing sales teams and become a publisher.
 
   

Ian MacGillivray

Ian MacGillivray

Director of Events & Conferences
 
Ian MacGillivray, director of events and conferences for JuneWarren-Nickle’s Energy Group (JWN), develops, manages and produces JWN’s growing portfolio of events and conferences that provide relevant and timely insight, knowledge and networking opportunities for Canada’s energy sector professionals. Before joining JWN in 2011, he founded and ran one of western Canada’s leading conference management companies from 2004-11. Outside work, Ian is a community builder and contributes his time and talents to community initiatives, sporting events and charitable causes. Currently, he is a member of the Edmonton Eskimos Gridiron Gang (corporate ambassadors for the still community-owned CFL club) and an active board director on the Canadian Digestive Health Foundation (CDHF). Ian is married with two daughters and enjoys downhill skiing, golf, the outdoors, summer-lake weekends and spending time with friends and family.

Stephen Marsters

Director of the
Daily Oil Bulletin
 Stephen Marsters, director of the Daily Oil Bulletin, joined JuneWarren-Nickle’s Energy Group (JWN) in 1997 as a reporter for the Daily Oil Bulletin. He took over as editor for New Technology Magazine (NTM) the following year, eventually becoming publisher of NTM and editorial director for the JWN set of products. Stephen has a B.Sc. in geology and biology from Dalhousie University, an M.Sc. in earth sciences from the University of Waterloo and an MA in journalism from the University of Western Ontario.

Gord Lindenberg

Director of Digital Strategies
 

Joining the company in 2004, Gord heads up information services within JuneWarren-Nickle’s Energy Group (JWN) and is responsible for digital strategies transforming the business.  He has 13 years of marketing and sales experience with information companies such as Amdahl, Oracle and Ariba and a broad scope of hands-on experience ranging from applications development to network management.

Gord has a B.Sc. in computer science from the University of Manitoba and an MBA from Athabasca University.  He is married with three grown children and is very active in the community, enjoying golf, hiking, boarding and curling. 

   

Chaz Osburn

Chaz Osburn

Director of Content
 Chaz Osburn, director of content for JuneWarren-Nickle’s Energy Group (JWN), leads a team of talented writers and editors who produce content for JWN’s core magazines and websites (Oilweek, Oilsands Review, Oil & Gas Inquirer, New Technology Magazine and Alberta Construction Magazine), specialty and custom publications, maps and charts, and JWN’s various conferences and events. He joined the company in 2007, previously serving as managing editor and associate publisher. Chaz is the former national editor of Automotive News, a trade publication based in Detroit for the North American automotive industry, and has extensive daily newspaper experience. He is a member of the board of directors of the Alberta Magazine Publishers Association and enjoys a variety of sports, including running, skiing and golfing. 
   

Audrey Sprinkle

Audrey Sprinkle

Director of Production
 Audrey Sprinkle, director of production at JuneWarren-Nickle’s Energy Group (JWN), manages the data services, creative services, editorial assistance and circulation departments. Working across the company, her focus is on achieving workflow efficiencies between departments and ensuring the quality of the company’s print and digital products. Audrey has held a number of production roles in her 15 years with the company and says this hands-on experience, combined with a management certificate from the University of Alberta and project management certificate from NAIT, gives her an edge in her current role. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, reading, renovating and taking in the outdoors.

Ken Zacharias

Director of Finance

 
Ken Zacharias, director of finance for the Glacier Media agriculture and energy group, oversees the financial performance of western Canada’s most influential agriculture and energy publications. He has been with Glacier Media—parent company to JuneWarren-Nickle’s Energy Group—for 11 years. Prior to that, he spent 13 years with Western Producer Publications in Saskatoon, first as controller and then as publisher, where he successfully oversaw the publication’s transition from its long-time owner Saskatchewan Wheat Pool to current owner Glacier Media. As a certified management accountant, Ken has worked in the banking, broadcasting and publishing industries for over 30 years.
