Oilweek Speaker SeriesIn 2009, Oilweek started extending its brand to events with its inaugural Top 100 Breakfast held in June. Based on the success of that breakfast, in 2010 we're holding a total of four of these types of events on a variety of subject matters. Each event will have two speakers, one that sets the scene and the keynote speaker. Each addresses the same theme, but from a different angle. The audience is comprised of 150 C-level and other influential attendees operating in the Canadian oil and gas industry.

Top 100 BreakfastThe Oilweek/Gowling’s Top 100 Breakfast, dubbed our breakfast of champions, takes place each year in mid-June, just as we release our Top 100 issue. Long touted as one of the most popular Oilweek issues, for over 30 years, our Top 100 magazine has been a reader favourite. Building on this popularity, our breakfast gives attendees a sneak-peek at our Top 100 data including production, reserves, landholdings and employment figures. In addition, topical guest speakers shed light on factors that impacted movement up and down our Top 100 list.

Rising StarsFollowing the release of the May edition of Oilweek, the Rising Stars are honoured at a cocktail reception in Calgary, Alberta, in the month of June. Invitees include the Rising Stars of classes past, key members of industry associations, and the family and friends of the Stars themselves. The reception is held at a swank downtown Calgary venue and includes a jazz band, feature cocktails, and a selection of savory delights prepared by the culinary team at the site of choice.

Annual Report AwardsHeld each November, the Annual Report Awards Ceremony is a joint initiative between Oilweek and ATB Financial honouring the best annual reports in the oil and gas sector. For the past 34 years, this event has promoted excellence in editorial and financial reporting in the Canadian oil and gas exploration and production, transportation, and service and supply sectors. In addition, we also celebrate the efforts of those companies who include sustainability reporting as part of their overall communications strategy.
The event itself is an elegant luncheon at Calgary’s Roundup Centre honouring the winners, and each year features a topical guest speaker. Emceed for over 30 years by CTV’s Darrell Janz, the event draws a crowd of over 300 attendees. Winners are profiled in the January edition of Oilweek.

Producer and Supplier of the YearEach year, Oilweek and Oilsands Review put out a call for nominations for their respective producers and suppliers of the year. The winners are then profiled in the November and December editions of the magazines. Such industry greats as Husky Energy, Suncor, EnCana, and others have graced the past covers of the magazines, basking in this honour. Nominations open in July and are accepted online both from readers and an editorial board. Nominees are then short-listed based on a number of relevant criteria with final voting open to the public throughout August and September.
Winning companies are honoured as part of the Annual Report Awards luncheon in November of every year. (See Annual Report Awards for event details.)
